Egbert-Jan Lam, from Burojet Design Studio, based in the Netherlands, designed the family of STITCHES lamps. Each lamp has its own distinctive pattern and takes the name of a town or city in the Malian (West African) nation of MOPTI, TOMBUCTU, DJENNÉ and BAMAKO. To make them, the veneer is sewn in the purest traditional sewing style: a pattern is drawn, the piece is marked and cut. Thus each part. To complete the piece, a hem is used which is visible and which allows light to shine through. The shape of each STITCHES lamp is an allusion to the mosques found in Mali. Not only because of its shape but also because of the long tradition as a producer of embroideries.
